Kelowna, B.C., council has budgeted $94,000 for a new signage strategy, which will apply to all primary entrances to the city.
According to a report from The Daily Courier, documents highlighting the strategy were recently presented to council, along with a list of various other carryover projects.
Implementation of the plan could also open up the possibility for a new “Kelowna” sign, which the city has not had since 2015.
The previous sign, which comprised of white letters and incorporated an image of the well-known “Spirit of Sail” sculpture, was removed from the north end to make room for expansion of the intersection at Highway 97 and Sexsmith Road/Old Vernon Road.
“The signature sign would be something like a spot for selfies along the waterfront,” Kelowna’s parks and building planning manager, Robert Parlane, later told The Daily Courier. “We’ve still got to go through the design process and identify a location. So, there’s no timeline for that yet.”
